NAU’s Center for Adaptable Western Landscapes (CAWL) and the US Forest Service are working together to implement ‘rapid plot’ monitoring in areas within the Four Forests Restoration Initiative (4FRI) treatment area. Our monitoring approach is designed to maximize efficiency in sampling biophysical variables, with a focus on forest and woodland structure and fuels. The data we collect is intended to track changes in forests, watersheds, and wildlife habitat that result from forest restoration management (mainly mechanical thinning treatments).
